The view of Marienplatz from Peterkirche

Glockenspiel

After sleeping much of the morning, we got off to a late start in our sightseeing in München. Tintin took us to Marienplatz to see the Glockenspiel--the clock figures which dance and twirl around once or twice a day.

Victualesmarket

We also climbed up to the top of Peterkirche to get a better view of the city, as well as a better view of the Glockenspiel. After this 'strenuous' climb I decided I didn't want to pay to climb to the top of any more cathedrals, churches, basilicas, or towers.

Biergarten

We also visited the Victualesmarket and many other landmarks around the city.

Tintin, Martje, and myself

Eventually we met up with Martje at an outdoor biergarten. There we sampled our first experience with radler--a really good, half bier and half lemonade drink.

We hung around enjoying the beautiful sunshine, until it was time to go back to Tintin's apartment. We were leaving for Rome that night and so we needed to back our backpacks.

Suhad in her train compartment

We got to the central train station 10 minutes before our train was to leave for Roma. We said our good-byes to Martje and Tintin and headed into the relatively empty train.

It was our first experience of traveling by train at night. We wrote in our new journals and tried to get some sleep that night, despite the many stops and the conductors waking us up at the border crossings. Neither one of us spoke Italian, but we weren't too worried.
